I was six years old when I wrote my first story. My favorite stuffie was having a bad day and I thought I would help her through it. The story I wrote had humour and a bright silver lining but a weak plot, no conflict or any kind of resolution. Still, I remember distinctly feeling that
storytelling could be transformative.
Decades later I still have the same desire to help loved ones feel better. Not feel better, but feel better. By that I mean it is my intention and aspiration to help children feel their emotions – all of them – more fully. Why? Because emotional literacy leads to increased happiness and success for kids.
